Derek the dino
This animation and character development project was hand drawn and edited in Adobe Media Encoder, After Effects and Premier Pro.
Building a story and personality behind my character through story boarding techniques was important to bring out subtle context humour; and deeper understanding of the story line.
Paying close attention to mimic real physics, with slight exaggeration to emphasise particular motions and cycles brought out the 'cartoon' style of animation.
This animations depicts the life of Derek the Dinosaur.
Final Animation Sequence: Derek's departure
This animation chronicles Derek the Dino's final adventure, utilising a blend of inspired aesthetics and nostalgic typographic elements to weave a compelling narrative. Derek's character development is brought to life through expressive motion graphics, incorporating subtle yet impactful animation techniques like squash and stretch, ease in/out easing, and seamless transitions.
While exported for reduced file size, resulting in a touch of pixelation, this stylistic choice was a deliberate creative direction, adding a unique charm to the animation. Meticulous sound engineering further elevates the narrative impact, ensuring a complete audiovisual experience.
