Commissions
In 2019, I took the leap of sharing my artworks on Instagram and creative process on TikTok in 2020, which opened doors to numerous commission opportunities. Fuelled by the growing passion for my craft, I embarked on my entrepreneurial journey, establishing my first 'side hustle' business.
This endeavour prompted me to create my initial website and brand identity (Ruby Lu Art); serving as a platform to showcase and sell prints, original art, and offer detailed insights into each piece.

'The Scarlet Witch' serves as the second instalment in my ongoing series, 'Heroes & Villains', paying homage to the iconic characters from classic Marvel and DC comics. Inspired by the enigmatic figure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this artwork captures the essence of the Scarlet Witch with a nod to original animation and comic styles from the 1900s.
Crafted over a span of approximately 4 hours, this piece showcases a blend of traditional and contemporary techniques. Using a combination of black ink pen alongside metallic and chrome paint pens, I aimed to accentuate the Scarlet Witch's power and presence. The incorporation of chrome and metallic accents adds a modern twist while honouring the vintage aesthetics of the character's origins.

'The Flash' marks the inaugural piece in my ongoing series, 'Heroes & Villains', capturing the essence of one of the most iconic characters in comic book history. Inspired by the timeless aesthetics of vintage comics, this artwork delves into the world of speed and power.
Crafted over a span of approximately 5 hours, this piece served as an exploration of shading and lighting techniques, emphasising muscle definition through clever use of negative space. Drawing inspiration from classic comic book artistry, I utilised gold metallic paint pens to accentuate the electrifying speed and gravity-defying movements.

'Him' is an oil painting that captures my interpretation of a Supreme model skateboarding against the backdrop of a vibrant sunset sky. Executed over the course of close to 7 hours, this artwork is a testament to experimentation and artistic harmony.
The gradient background draws inspiration from the captivating hues of a sunset. Through a meticulous balance of thick oil paint and thin layers, I sought to achieve a harmonious interplay of texture and depth.
The circumference of roses and other florals pays homage to my great aunt Amy, a revered painter within her Greek community. Inspired by her specialty in painting roses, these floral motifs add a personal touch to the piece, infusing it with a sense of nostalgia and heritage.

The background texture, a hallmark of my artworks, adds depth and contrast to the piece. Through careful use of colour, the composition balances the visual weight of the subject and reflects the dynamic atmosphere of Carti's music.
A red dripping halo serves as a nod to the artist's edgy music videos and recent aesthetic choices, adding a touch of intrigue to the composition. Additionally, the inclusion of the anarchy symbol, a distinctive chain associated with Carti's album designs and videography, adds a layer of symbolism to the artwork.
